Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Navy organized a joint medical camp at the Medical Officer of Health office in Neluwa, yesterday.
The medical officers of Sri Lanka Navy and the visiting Indian Navy vessel INS Vikramaditya treated over 1000 civilian residents in Neluwa and neighbouring villages.
“A range of medical facilities were made available for the patients including testing of blood sugar and cholesterol levels, ECG and medical laboratory tests. Those with impaired visions were provided with spectacles after specialists’ examinations, enabling them to go about their day to day life with the least inconvenience.
The civilians who attended the medical clinic were highly impressed by the community assistance extended jointly by the SLN and INS personnel, taking into consideration of the difficulties they experience in obtaining specialist medical advice due to remoteness of location and scarcity of public transportation.
They expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Navy for their magnanimous gesture, which had brought a great deal of relief to their village on a day designated as a Buddhist religious holiday dedicated to meritorious acts which include helping those in need of medical assistance”, the Navy said in a statement.
