Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka's name is being considered to be appointed through the UNP national list, following the passing away of Minister of Lands M. K. A. D. S. Gunawardana, political sources said.

However, requests have been made to appoint former state minister Rosy Senanayake to the vacant seat, political sources said.

Nevertheless, General Secretary of United National Party Kabir Hashim said the appointment will be made when Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Chairman Malik Samarawickrama return to Sri Lanka from Switzerland tour.

Meanwhile, Upul Shantha Sannasgala, Eranga Weliangage and Azath Salley have also been considered to fill the seat as well.

Late Minister M. K. A. D. S. Gunawardana was elected to parliament from the National List of UNP.
