President Maithripala Sirisena visited a friend of his from Polonnaruwa yesterday (24) at his home. Somawardhana Weerasinghe is a former soldier, who fought in World War II. They recalled the past experiences they had as good old friends. Hanging on the walls were various posters including one which said "Sri Lanka Prajaathaanthrika Samaajavaadi Janarajaye Anaagatha Agamathi - Maithri" (The Future Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka - Maithri)

UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa arrived at Viharamahadevi Park last night to inspect the preparations for 'War Heroes Day' on Monday.

A special marathon by the title of “Jawana Shakthi Yaathra” was organised under the energy conversation programme introduced in line with the National Energy Conservation month, and was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena this morning (16) at the Independant square.
