The 136th 'Ama Dam Sisila' Buddhist program was held at the ancestral home of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa at Medamulana in Hambantota District. Madagoda Abhayatissa Thera delivered the sermon. Rajapaksa and family members including former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa attended.

Former JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe commenced a hunger strike on Friday (01)at Independence Square in Colombo demanding to take an action against the alleged coup attempt on January 09.

Speaking to media Amarasinghe said legal action should be taken against conspirators in order to protect President Maithripala Sirisena and the people of the country.
