More than 192 countries around the world celebrate April 22 in each year as 'Earth Day'. It was first celebrated in 1970 and now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network. On the day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection

However, many environmentalists argue that it has become nothing more than a day of celebration, since environmental issues have not been resolved effectively.
