In a landmark event, JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka signed nomiantions under the 'elephant' symbol of the UNP a short while ago. JHU, which recently rebranded itself as the EYJP, joined the broad alliance contesting for the August 17 General Election under the 'elephant' symbol.

A delegation from the National Resilience Institute in Indonesia visited the Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Kolitha Gunathilake on July 9 at the CDS office.

The delegation arrived in Sri Lanka to discuss the final stages of the humanitarian operation and the rehabilitation programmes.

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera held an ifthar in Matara yesterday. Religious leaders, political leaders, diplomats from Muslim countries, businessmen and civil society were present at the gathering. Samaraweera emphasized the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious nature of Sri Lanka and said that the friendliness between the Muslims and Sinhalese citizens of Matara made the city a example of reconciliation.
