The newly appointed Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter of the Siyam Nikaya the Most Ven. Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thera was offered Sannas Pathra by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena during a state ceremony at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy on Monday.
 
During the ceremony Sannaspathra were also offered to the two new Anunayakas of the Asgiriya Chapter Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero, Chief Incumbent of Badulla Muthiyangana Raja Maha Vihara and Ven. Vendaruwe Upali Thero, Polonnaruwa Solosmasthanadhipathi.

Provincial Council Member Hirunika Premachandra married Hiran Yattovita today at a private function attended by only a handful of guests. President Maithripala Sirisena attended as one of the witnesses.

Former UPFA MPs who support Mahinda Rajapaksa met last night, following the announcement that Rajapaksa was given nomination from UPFA. The meeting reportedly took place at Western Province Chief Minister Presanna Ranatunga's residence.

Sirisena, the dummy candidate fielded to counter Maithripala Sirisena in the January Presidential Election was seen today at Medamulana when former President Rajapaksa officially announced his political comeback. R. A. Sirisena is a native of Medamulana and lives close to Rajapaksa's ancestral home.

Sri Lanka’s batting phenomenon Kumar Sangakkara on Saturday (27) officially announced that he will retire from international test cricket arena after second test match against India at home.

"I am going to miss playing for Sri Lanka a lot," he said during the media conference held to announce the retirement.

 "I had the time of my life playing for Sri Lanka. I enjoyed playing every format and donning whites for Sri Lanka has been special. I can walk away happy that good days outweigh the disappointments.", Sangakkara asserted.
