Independent Group MP Ramanthan Archchuna has issued an apology for his controversial behavior during the inauguration of the first session of the ninth Parliament.
Archchuna made the apology to the Secretary General of Parliament, Kushani Senadheera, while participating in the orientation programme for new MPs today (25). He explained that, as a new MP, he made an honest mistake and had no intention of disrespecting parliamentary procedures.
In his apology, Archchuna emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and respect in Parliament and expressed gratitude for the understanding shown by his colleagues and the public. He committed to fostering constructive dialogue and positive change moving forward.
Additionally, Archchuna criticized a recent interview he gave to a private TV channel, claiming that it had been deliberately edited to spread racial tensions and discredit him.
“I am deeply saddened by what was done. It goes against all media ethics,” he said. “I could have pursued legal action against the TV channel, but I have chosen to let it go. However, I am truly disappointed by the situation created by this media outlet.”
