Education Ministry to Update Supreme Court on Scholarship Exam Stance

November 25, 2024

The Ministry of Education plans to present its stance on the Grade 5 scholarship examination to the Supreme Court on December 2.

The decision will be based on recommendations from three committees tasked with investigating allegations of leaked exam questions. The Attorney General is expected to convey the government’s position to the court.

This follows the Supreme Court's interim order on November 18, which suspended the evaluation of answer scripts and the release of results for the exam held on September 15. The order was issued after four fundamental rights petitions were filed, citing question leaks that allegedly caused unfairness to candidates.

During the hearing, the court directed the Additional Solicitor General to consult relevant officials on the feasibility of invalidating the first question paper and reconducting the exam.

The petitions argued that the leaked questions had significantly disadvantaged students, leading to a plea for the court’s intervention to ensure fairness.
