Gampaha District Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Harshana Rajakaruna has announced that the SJB is open to collaborating with the United National Party (UNP), provided former President Ranil Wickremesinghe agrees to allow Sajith Premadasa to take over the leadership.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, MP Rajakaruna said, “Wickremesinghe is currently out of the country, and we hope to hold discussions when he returns.”

He further called on all right-wing political forces to unite with the SJB, adding, “We believe that all right-wing political groups, including Ranil Wickremesinghe, should join together. We request all UNP members, including Wickremesinghe, to join the SJB, end divisions, and move forward together.”

Rajakaruna also expressed that the SJB had previously told Wickremesinghe that if he contested in the presidential election, it would benefit Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as they believed Wickremesinghe would come third in the race. “If Wickremesinghe had not run for the presidential election, today’s president would have been Sajith Premadasa,” Rajakaruna said.
