President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has repeatedly signed his letter of resignation dated July 13, informed political sources said.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, is due to make an announcement tomorrow on the President’s resignation.

Then the Parliament will take a vote on the appointment of the new President. The SJB has made it clear that it will back Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa for presidency.
