Opposition MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said nearly 1500 doctors have left the country so far, in 2022.

This development comes while Sri Lanka is going through its worst economic crisis in post-independence history.

“We reliably learn that almost 1,500 doctors may have left SriLanka in 2022. The below figures are applications for ‘Good Standing Certificates’ from SLMC to get out of here. Jan: 138. Feb: 172. Mar: 198. Apr: 214. May: 315. Jun: 449. Total for 6 months: 1486,” de Silva said.

However, the Sri Lanka Medical Council is yet to make a statement on this matter.
