Journalist Shanuka Karunarathne has been appointed the Media Secretary to the Prime Minister. 

Karunaratne previously worked as the Media Secretary to the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, Sagala Ratnayaka under the previous government. 

He has also worked as the Deputy General Manager of TNL and worked in various capacities at several other media institutions. 

He is a past pupil of St. Mary’s College, Kegalle.
