Vehicles exceeding the engine capacity of 2000 CC should be banned from use in view of the current fuel crisis, former Minister Udaya Gammanpila said.
Gammanpila said it was a short-term solution to the current fuel crisis.
“It’s true that that this would cause inconvenience to some. But we must look at the larger picture when making these decisions,” he added.
He made these remarks addressing a press conference in Colombo. Gammanpila said the same proposal was presented to the Cabinet in January and but the ministers were not in favour of it.
“Even I use a small car with a 1500 CC engine capacity. So no one can point fingers at me,” the MP said.
