The SLPP will make its opinion known to the public on the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) report on Easter Sunday attacks next week, Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said.
He said before forming its opinion, the pary should carefully analyse and assess the findings and recommendations made by the commission report. "This cannot be done in a hurry," he said, addressing a press conference yesterday.
However, the Minister said the committe appointed by the President last week to study the PCOI report had no bearing on the party's opinion on the report.
"That is a seperate process to identify what needs to be done by different institutitions in order to implement the recommendations of the report. It has nothing to do with the SLPP's opinion on the PCOI report and its recommendatios," the Minister added.
The PCOI report has drawn criticism from the SLFP — a key stakeholder of the government — and the SJB, the main opposition party. The SLFP has slammed at the report which recommends criminal proceesings against its leader, former President Maithripala Sirisena for security lapses leading to the Easter Sunday attacks.
The SJB has pointed out that the PCOI findings and recommendations are "inadequate" and fail to unravel the unresolved mysteries surrounding the Easter Sunday attacks.
