The ongoing inclement weather has severely impacted 55,416 individuals from 15,670 families across 12 districts in Sri Lanka, with one fatality reported in Bandarawela. A total of 1,696 individuals from 526 families have been relocated to 20 safety shelters as of this morning.
Train services on the up-country line have been halted beyond Nanu-Oya due to landslides and earth slips between Badulla and Bandarawela, according to Sri Lanka Railways.
The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings in nine districts, with yellow and amber alerts for Badulla, Kandy, Matale, and Nuwara Eliya, and yellow alerts for Galle, Kalutara, Kegalle, Matara, and Ratnapura.
Heavy rains have triggered flood risks in multiple regions:
- Heda Oya: Siyambalanduwa and Lahugala (Ampara and Monaragala districts).
- Mahaweli River: Dimbulagala, Hingurakgoda, Seruvila, and others.
- Maduru Oya: Major flooding reported in Padiyathalawa.
- Nilwala River: Minor flooding in Thalgahagoda and alerts for Panadugama.
- Yan-Oya and Mahaweli River: Flood alerts for Horowpathana and Thaldena.
