It has been proposed to establish an internal airline service according to the criteria of International Civil Aviation Authority. 

Accordingly, the proposal made by the President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence, to call for proposals from eligible private investors to select a suitable investor for commencing such an airline service with the Sri Lanka Air Force, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
