The Election Commission says that 667,240 votes were rejected during the 2024 general election. Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, reported that out of a total of 17,140,354 eligible voters, 11,815,246 ballots were cast. Of these, 11,148,006 were valid, while 667,240 votes were deemed invalid.
Meanwhile,Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), praised the election for being the most peaceful in the country’s history.
