Three Indians have been arrested in Sri Lanka after 60 kg of cannabis (Kerala Ganja) was seized by the Sri Lankan Navy in a joint operation with the Sri Lankan Police. The boat carrying the 60 kg Kerala ganja was spotted by the Sri Lankan Navy after some suspicious movement was seen in Parthithurai region.
The boat was reportedly spotted when the three accused were transferring the 60 kg Kerala ganja worth Indian Rs 91,50,000 into their boats from an Indian boat in the middle of the sea.
The Sri Lankan Navy had suspected something fishy and stopped the boat returning to Sri Lanka with the shipment. The incident took place early today morning. The trio will be produced before the Parithithurai court today.
Officials have of late been bringing up the issue about how there has been continuous movement of cannabis and other drugs from India to Sri Lanka. Multiple arrests have already taken place in the last three months.
One-and-a-half tonnes of drugs have been seized by the Navy and since July, 10 Indians have been arrested for attempting to transport drugs into Sri Lanka according to India Today.
