Eighteen individuals were sentenced to death by Avissawella High Court over the murder of the then Superintendent of the Noori Estate in Deraniyagala, Nihal Perera, in 2013.

Three others were acquitted from the case.

The 21 individuals were indicted by the AG in Avissawella High Court. Those found guilty include former UPFA Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha chairman Anil Champika alias ‘Atha Kota’.
