The Colombo High Court today called for a JMO report on former minister Basil Rajapaksa's health after he requested to leave the country for three months for medical purposes.
He had requested permission to leave the country from December 10 till March 2 for medical checkups in the USA. He informed court that he had been taking medicine from the US but had not been present for checkups in person for nearly two years.
The AG objected, saying that the period of three months was too long to be allowed to stay out of the country. He requested a JMO report to ascertain if Rajapaksa cannot be treated in Sri Lanka.
The High Court called for a JMO report and fixed December 7 for the next hearing of the case.
Rajapaksa's passport is impounded in several cases. Two more requests to leave the country pertaining to other cases are to be heard on December 2.
