Over 2000 new members joined the Sri Lanka Podujana Party, which is led by Prof. G.L. Peiris, party sources said today.

There are a large number of former local councilors among these members. There are 2167 new members who joined today.

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa also took the membership of the new party recently. Rajapaksa told media recently that he expects 10 million members to join the party.

He added that Sri Lanka Podujana Party is one of the two major parties in Sri Lanka, effectively indicating that it will surpass the popularity of the SLFP.
