A special meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Executive Commitee, called by President Maithripala Sirisena, will take place today in Colombo.
The committee is expected to discuss the forthcoming local elections and whether the SLFP should go alone or be part of the UPFA.
This meeting comes in the backdrop of plans by the 'Joint Opposition' to launch a new political front before the local elections. A section of the SLFP and a majority of other parties in the UPFA support the 'Joint Opposition' which backs former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
