Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe assured that the new constitution will not change the unitary state and rejected the notion that it will lead to the division of the country.
Making a special statement this morning, Wickremesinghe hit out at Prof G.L. Peiris and others who are raising fears about the constitution making, adding that the government has not even discussed any changes to the unitary status of the country.
He added that the constitution will be drafted after obtaining public opinion. For the first time in the world, social media opinion will be considered in the drafting of the constitution, the Prime Minister said, adding that it was important to listen to the youth of the country.
The draft of the constitution will be prepared only after considering public opinion, Wickremesinghe added.
