The security of the Girithale army camp, which was sealed yesterday, had been placed under the Military Police by Army Commander Chrishantha de Silva, informed sources told Asian Mirror.
The camp was sealed to facilitate investigations into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda. It was revealed that the journalist, who was abducted in Colombo two days before the Presidential election in 2010, had been taken to the Gitthale Army camp.
A part of the Girithale Army camp was under the military intelligence wing. Apart from senior officers attached to the intelligence wing, some ex-LTTE members who defected from the organization with Vinayagamoorthi Mutalitharan alias Karuna Amman also occupied the camp.
More than 10 ex-intelligence wing members are currently in remand in connection with the disappearance of the journalist.
The move came just two days after the Homagama Magistrate hearing the habeas corpus case with regard to the disappearance of Eknaligoda slammed at the Army Commander for not cooperating with the CID investigation.
