UPFA MP and Pivithuru Hela Urumaya General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila filed a case at the Colombo District Court demanding Rs 500 million as damages from UNP MP Hirunika Premachandra.

The case is filed concerning several allegedly defamatory statements made by Premachandra at the TV programme 'Giraya' in ITN, on July 2, 2015.

Premachandra alleged that a police complaint had been lodged against Gammanpila for not marrying a woman after making a promise to do so. She also alleged he was engaged in a scrap iron theft, Gammanpila said.

On August 6, 2015, Gammanpila told media that he has sent a letter of demand to Premachandra.
