The first session of Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament will begin today (Nov. 21) at 10:00 a.m., with the election of a new Speaker at the top of the agenda.
MP Ashoka Ranwala, a seasoned member of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and a prominent figure in the National People’s Power (NPP), is likely to be appointed Speaker.
Nearly 27 Deputy Ministers are set to be sworn in later today at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, following the conclusion of parliamentary proceedings.
The ceremony will mark the formal induction of new deputy ministers into the government.
