A 48-year-old man was killed in a shooting incident near the Veterinary Office on Doramure Road, Walasgala, in Dikwella early this morning. The shooting occurred around 5:30 AM, targeting the victim while he was riding a motorcycle.

Police identified the deceased as a resident of Walasgala employed as a driver. He died on the spot.

Police have yet to determine the shooters or their motive. However, investigations are exploring a possible link to an ongoing court case against the victim, who was accused of extorting money using the name of an overseas-based organized crime leader.

Police suspect a T-56 assault rifle was used in the attack. Dikwella Police are continuing their efforts to identify and arrest the suspects.
