Asoka Sapumal Ranwala, a Member of Parliament from the National People’s Power (NPP), has been elected as the new Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament.
The appointment was made during the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament, which commenced this morning at 10:00 AM. Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya proposed Ranwala’s name, with Minister Vijitha Herath seconding the nomination.
The session marked the beginning of legislative proceedings under the newly-elected Parliament, with all members in attendance.
