Teachers and Principals Launch 'Work-to-Rule' Campaign

Today, the Teacher-Principal Trade Unions initiated a two-week 'work-to-rule' campaign. The unions announced that from July 22, they will refrain from participating in workshops, external professional activities, and training programs mandated by provincial and zonal education offices.

Parakrama Weerasinghe, General Secretary of the National Association of Principals, stated that during this period, educators will focus solely on classroom teaching, abstaining from all external duties.

Despite this, Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thero, Convenor of the National Collective Against Teachers’ & Principals’ Salary Disparities, expressed opposition to the campaign, suggesting it aims to bolster political movements rather than address the core issues faced by educators.
