Unions Threaten Legal Action Over Sri Lanka Electricity Bill

Electricity trade unions have announced plans to pursue legal action against the Sri Lanka Electricity Bill recently introduced in Parliament.
The Convener of the CEB Joint Trade Union Alliance, Ranjan Jayalal, expressed concerns over the bill, stating it poses a significant threat to the country's energy sector. Jayalal emphasized that legal action would be initiated before May 8th, with efforts also underway to engage with political groups and various stakeholders.
He criticized the bill for lacking input from local energy experts and suggested possible foreign influence, citing an alleged "Indian connection." Additionally, Jayalal indicated intentions to mobilize grassroots opposition against the bill.
