Sri Lanka Customs is gearing up for a significant shift as it prepares to conduct auctions online starting from July this year.
State Minister of Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, announced the directive during a session in Parliament yesterday, in response to a newspaper report on the matter. Siyambalapitiya emphasized that despite previous challenges hindering the implementation of online auctioning, the Customs Department is now poised to take charge of conducting all auctions digitally.
This move is expected to streamline processes, ensure proper revenue generation for the government, and provide citizens with transparent access to goods, including commodities like gold, at competitive prices.
The transition marks a pivotal step towards modernizing customs operations in Sri Lanka.
