The Department of Meteorology has issued a Heat Index Advisory for seven provinces in Sri Lanka.
These include the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Matale and Monaragala districts.
The advisory warns that the Heat Index, which measures the temperature felt on the human body, is expected to rise to the 'Caution level' in these areas.
At this level, individuals may experience fatigue with prolonged exposure and activity, while continued exertion could lead to heat cramps.
Residents and visitors are urged to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and seeking shade or air-conditioned environments when possible.
