The Election Commission of Sri Lanka has launched the groundwork for this year's presidential polls, commencing today, April 9.
Activities focused on preparing the electoral register will run until May 10, according to the Election Secretariat. This initiative aims to enable eligible voters whose names are absent from the register to rectify the omission by adding them to the relevant lists. Eligible voters can now enlist their names at their respective Grama Niladhari offices or election offices across the island.
Furthermore, the Election Commission is empowered to call for nominations for the Presidential Election post-July 17, 2024. Anticipations suggest the election might occur either in late September or the early days of October. Earlier, on April 1, the Election Commission confirmed the completion of preliminary arrangements necessary for the presidential election.
