The Court of Appeal has postponed its verdict on the interim requests within the writ petition challenging the remand of Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, Director of the Health Ministry's Medical Supplies Division, until April 26. Dr. Wickramanayake, currently in remand custody over alleged substandard immunoglobulin imports, sought release on bail through his lawyers.
The decision, originally set for today, was deferred by Appeals Court Judge D.N. Samarakoon. Dr. Wickramanayake and three others were remanded on November 20 by the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court in connection with the controversial immunoglobulin import case.
Among those also under remand custody in the alleged drug scandal are former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Chandragupta, and Additional Secretary Dr. Saman Ratnayake.
