Dr. K. Akilendran, the Director of Health Services in Mullaitivu, tragically lost his life in a road accident in Omanthai yesterday.

According to initial police investigations, the incident occurred when a tipper traveling from Vavuniya to Kilinochchi collided head-on with the cab Dr. Akilendran was traveling in, en route from Mullaitivu to Vavuniya. It is suspected that the accident was caused by the tipper attempting to overtake a three-wheeler ahead of it. Despite being rushed to Vavuniya General Hospital for treatment, Dr. Akilendran succumbed to his injuries upon admission. The driver of the tipper, who sustained minor injuries, was hospitalized and subsequently arrested in connection with the accident.
The tragic loss of Dr. Akilendran has deeply saddened the community, highlighting the need for increased road safety measures in the region.
