During a bilateral discussion in Beijing between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Sri Lankan Premier Dinesh Gunawardana, President Xi Jinping reiterated China's commitment to supporting Sri Lanka, along with the EXIM Bank of China and China Development Bank.
State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe conveyed that China will continue positive engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to enhance economic stability and restore debt sustainability in Sri Lanka.Semasinghe, part of the Sri Lankan delegation accompanying Prime Minister Gunawardana during his five-day state visit to China, emphasized the importance of bilateral relations based on mutual respect and productivity. President Xi Jinping assured continuous support for Sri Lanka's political and socioeconomic progress, pledging to safeguard the country's independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Gunawardana expressed gratitude for China's assistance during economic crises and for extending debt restructuring facilities.He highlighted progress in implementing decisions made during President Ranil Wickremesinghe's visit to China and thanked President Xi for support in various sectors, including education, agriculture, health, technology, culture, and religion.
The discussion underscored mutual cooperation and respect between the two countries, with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening ties under principles of friendship and non-interference in internal affairs.
The Sri Lankan delegation, including State Minister Ashoka Priyantha, MP Yadamini Gunawardena, Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong, and Prime Minister's Secretary Anura Dissanayake, participated in the talks aimed at fostering closer collaboration between China and Sri Lanka.
