Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena embarked on a significant journey as he departed for China on a five-day official visit late last night, according to airport sources. The trip comes in response to a special invitation extended by the Chinese government.
One of the key agendas of this visit involves negotiating the restructuring of loans extended to Sri Lanka by China, whose repayments have been temporarily halted. Accompanying the Prime Minister are 10 other Sri Lankan delegates.
The departure took place from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) aboard China Eastern Airlines flight MU-232 at 8:20 p.m. yesterday evening.
