The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has announced plans to question former President Maithripala Sirisena regarding his recent statement on the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings.
Sirisena claimed he was "well aware" of the true perpetrators behind the attacks. Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon to launch an immediate investigation into Sirisena's remarks. In response, the IGP has instructed the CID to initiate a probe into the former President's disclosure.
The questioning is scheduled to take place tomorrow, following Sirisena's statement made during a press conference in Kandy last Friday.
