Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has directed IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon to initiate an urgent investigation into former President Maithripala Sirisena's recent statement regarding the Easter Sunday bombings. Sirisena claimed to possess knowledge of the true perpetrators behind the 2019 attacks during a press briefing in Kandy.

He asserted that the individuals currently in custody are minor offenders, implying that the real culprits remain at large. Opposition MPs Mano Ganesan and Kavinda Jayawardene have demanded Sirisena's immediate arrest, urging authorities to interrogate him regarding his remarks.
