Another suspect has been apprehended regarding the fatal shooting incident that shook Pitigala last week. The 31-year-old individual was taken into custody in Kahaduwa of Elpitiya police division on Tuesday afternoon (March 19). Alongside the arrest, police discovered 2g and 250mg of heroin in the possession of the suspect.
This arrest comes in the wake of earlier apprehensions made earlier this week. Two suspects, aged 35, were detained in relation to the shooting incident, which claimed the lives of two individuals in Pitigala. One suspect was charged with orchestrating the crime, while the other was charged with aiding and abetting the shooting.
The tragic event unfolded on March 11 when two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire using a T-56 firearm near a shop located at the Guruwala Junction in Pitigala. The gunfire resulted in the deaths of two people, while three others sustained critical injuries. Police investigations revealed that the deceased were innocent bystanders and had no criminal records.
