Sri Lanka and Microsoft have sealed a groundbreaking deal to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the school curriculum.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Education and Microsoft Corporation marks the launch of a pilot project set to integrate AI into Information Technology studies for students above Grade 8. Twenty selected schools across 20 districts will pioneer this initiative, equipped with necessary technical resources and online support from Microsoft. President Ranil Wickremesinghe, after discussions with Microsoft representatives, emphasized the significance of this leap forward in education.
Education Minister Susil Premjayanth revealed plans for full implementation by 2025, while US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung, hailed the initiative's potential and forthcoming support for English language skills enhancement. Distinguished guests, including government officials and representatives from educational institutions, celebrated the partnership at the Presidential Secretariat.
