Opposition Member of Parliament, Wasantha Yapa Bandara, has decided to step down from his position on the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) today, shortly after being appointed.

The announcement of his resignation came swiftly after Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapakshe revealed Yapa Bandara's appointment. Yapa Bandara stated his intention to submit his letter of resignation imminently.
