Hot and Dry Weather Expected Across Island Today

Today, many parts of the island are anticipated to experience hot and dry conditions, according to the Department of Meteorology. Showers or thundershowers might occur in select areas of Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as in Galle and Matara districts later in the evening or at night.
Predominantly dry weather is forecasted for the rest of the island.

In the morning, misty conditions are likely in certain areas of Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts. An advisory issued by the Meteorology Department last evening highlighted that high atmospheric temperatures are expected in North Central, North Western, and Eastern provinces, as well as in Colombo, Gampaha, Monaragala, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, and Hambantota districts.

The advisory warns that the heat index, which reflects the temperature felt on the human body, may reach the 'Caution Level' in the mentioned areas. Under these conditions, prolonged exposure and activity could lead to fatigue and heat cramps. The public is strongly advised to stay hydrated, seek shade when outdoors, limit strenuous activities, and opt for lightweight and light-colored clothing to mitigate the effects of the heat
