Senior CID Officers Facing Transfer Amidst Alleged Links to Underworld Drug Dealer

The Police Headquarters is undergoing a shake-up within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) following allegations of ties with notorious underworld drug dealer Nadun Chinthaka, famously known as 'Harak Kata'. High-ranking officers are slated for transfer amidst investigations into missing phones and passports while in CID custody.

This follows Harak Kata's arrest in Madagascar last year, where attempts to escape custody unveiled alleged assistance from CID officers. Investigations also reveal the receipt of substantial gifts by some officers from the underworld figure. With an ASP already transferred, additional senior officers face imminent reassignment over similar allegations. Furthermore, the Special Investigation Unit is scrutinizing an SSP and 19 other CID officers over potential links with Harak Kata.

Meanwhile, inquiries persist into the disappearance of crucial items from CID custody, including two mobile phones containing sensitive information. Colombo High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte has ordered Harak Kata's remand until April 26, following his failed escape attempt. He is to be detained at the old prison complex in Tangalle.
The investigation continues, with the precise date of the items' disappearance yet to be disclosed.
