Tragedy struck at the Tirukkovil Methodist Central College yesterday as a 16-year-old schoolboy collapsed and passed away during a marathon race.

Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to the incident at Akkaraipattu Hospital.

The event, part of the school's inter-house sports meet, took a grim turn, leading to tension and protests outside the hospital, eventually requiring police and the Special Task Force to intervene as the situation escalated into violence.
