The Cabinet has agreed to implement a program to temporarily restrict activities other than providing fuel for essential services from midnight today (27).
Schools in urban areas will be closed until July 10th and inter-provincial travel will be largely suspended.
Accordingly, Ceypetco will supply fuel only for essential activities such as ports, health, and essential food distribution, Minister Bandula Gunawardene said addressing a press conference.
“I urge you to take the necessary steps to curb petroleum fuel consumption at this critical juncture. Otherwise, we will have problems with the distribution of limited stock that the Corporation has to maintain some of the essential services.
That is why the Cabinet decided to continue only essential services until July 10 and to suspend other activities. The Minister of Education stated that the decision-making power has been given to the school principals and the Provincial Director of Education.
