Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said some MPs had requested hotel rooms for them due to fuel shortage.

They had informed the speaker that they had no way of going back home after the parliamentary sessions.

The request by several MPs drew severe criticism on social media platforms.

It is also learnt that issuance of fuel for MPs from the Police Department’s fuel station has been suspended.
