MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said some political leaders in Sri Lanka are hiding in “islands” that were once occupied by terrorists.
He was referring to former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa who is currently in Trincomalee under the protection of Sri Lanka Navy.
Fonseka said the people who organized a meeting at Temple Trees should be arrested first for instigating violence.
“Even our party members should be arrested if they are responsible for violent clashes. But it’s important to arrest the ones who started this wave of violence,” Fonseka said.
He also criticized Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon who was seen with pro-government goons at Galle Face on May 09.
Fonseka requested all members of the military and the police to discharge their duties without political interests.
“They must not go beyond the law to protect politicians who break the law,” Fonseka, a former Army Commander, said.
