Political activist Pethum Kerner faced severe resistance at Galle Face yesterday when he attempted to project himself as the leader of the people’s struggle.

During an event organized by Kerner’s supporter, a participant walked up to the stage and said Kerner was the one who could change the ‘system’ in Sri Lanka.

A number of people gathered at the event expressed severe disappointment with this statement and said they did not want another “messiah”.

They reminded that Kerner was in a foreign country when citizens took to streets against the current government in early April. They also added that no one should be allowed to ‘hijack’ the citizen’s movement by any means.
